Zelos returns home with a point to prove in bumper Clio Cup field

Dan Zelos

Dereham Dynamo Dan Zelos will bring the biggest Renault Clio Cup field in recent memory to his home track at Snetterton this weekend looking to turn his raw pace into results.

The Evergreen Tyres-backed WDE driver will line up at the Norfolk circuit as part of a 23-car entry – the largest in the Clio Cup for 15 months! but his focus will be on one thing, turning a series of impressive qualifying performances and some blistering race lap times into that elusive podium place.

Snetterton provides the biggest motor sport fixture of the year for the East Anglia region. A trackside crowd of in excess of 30,000 people is anticipated and Sunday’s race action will be broadcast live across the UK by ITV4.

The championship is currently led by Team Pyro driver Max Coates (Scorton) ahead of Zelos’ WDE Motorsport teammate Paul Rivett and Westbourne Motorsport’s James Dorlin.

While Zelos trails them in the standings, his pure speed and some of his race laps have seen him show he can hang with them but this season his highest finish has been fifth. If he can put together a consistent qualifying and race performance, he could finally break into the top three.

The grid will be inflated by the addition of four more quality drivers. Three of them – Jack Young, Ben Colburn and Nick Reeve  are all make their Clio Cup debuts, while Nathan Edwards returns with Zelos’ WDE team.

The extra competition means the races may prove a little more unpredictable – if Zelos can steer clear of trouble and replicate his best form, Snetterton could be home sweet home.
